CAMPAIGN ON BREAST AND CERVICAL CANCER

Over the week, the FCT Public Health Department, through its Non-Communicable Disease Unit, embarked on sensitization and awareness campaign on breast and cervical cancer across some selected hospitals in the FCT, this was to educate mothers and women of reproductive age on cancer prevention. Also, there was an official launch of Free Pap Smear Screening for Cervical Cancer at Asokoro District Hospital. This initiative aims to promote early detection and prevention of cervical cancer, a major public health concern. The flag-off event was graced by the representative of the Mandate Secretary (HSES) Dr Bello Olugbenga who is the Ag, Director Hospital Management Board, representative of the Permanent secretary (HSES) and the Acting Director of Public Health Department, Dr Dan Gadzama both of whom delivered insightful speeches and emphasizing the importance of routine screening in reducing the burden of cervical cancer. They highlighted the government’s commitment to women’s health and urged the public to take advantage of the free screening to safeguard their well-being. This initiative reinforces the Public Health Department’s dedication to fighting non-communicable diseases and improving community health outcomes. Nyanya general hospital, Asokoro district hospital and Kubwa general hospital were visited respectively.
