
The Public Health Department’s Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Unit took a significant step towards improving community health by visiting the Zuba fruit Market in Gwawalada area council Abuja, to commemorate World NTD Day 2026. The team, comprising Head,Disease Control Division Dr Ngozi Ebesiki, State coordinator NTDs Mrs Lami Tauheed, Staff of Health Promotion and Education Division, Gwagwalada focal person,Partner and support staff, set up a stall at the market, offering free medical consultations, distributing medicines, and providing health education to market men and women.
The event focused on raising awareness about NTDs, their prevention, and treatment options. There was a talk to educated the community on simple measures to prevent NTDs, such as proper hygiene practices, use of clean water, and avoiding contact with contaminated soil or water.
The NTD Unit’s efforts were aimed at reducing the burden of NTDs in the community and promoting overall health and wellbeing. The event was well-received by the market community, with many individuals benefiting from the medical services and health education provided.
World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day is observed every year on 30 January
